Where do you build?
We are based out of New Smyrna Beach and build anywhere in Volusia County.
Do you build outside of Florida Days?
Yes. A great deal of our work is custom homes throughout the area, Beachside New Smyrna is where we got our start and where we continue to build many homes. We build ocean front, riverfront, in the country and everywhere in between.
Will you build on my lot/land?
Yes. As already mentioned much of our work is on “customer owned” property.
Do you offer financing? How does financing work?
We do not offer financing “in house”; however we work with several lenders who do an excellent job in Construction-Perm loans that will help walk you through the process. Or if you have a relationship with a bank that does these types of loans we can work with them.
What style home do you build?
Hickson Construction has become known for our “Old-Florida” Style houses which we are very proud of. But we will build any style home that you are looking for whether it be Modern Farmhouse, Craftsman, Coastal, Modern, Mediterranean, or Contemporary.
Do you build frame homes or with block?
Both. Because our homes are typically clad with Hardie board siding this is normally done over 2x6 framing. But Hardie Board can also be installed over block walls and most homes built on beachside will be done with masonry. There are many advantages to both methods of construction and both are designed to meet and exceed the unique requirements of building in Florida.
Are your homes energy efficient? And are they built with the environment in mind?
There are many energy efficient considerations that are standard in our homes from the metal roof, insulated low E windows, natural gas appliances when available, and building a tight home to cut down on energy costs. But probably the single biggest thing that we place value on is that a quality home built of durable materials will extend the life cycle of that home keeping it out of the landfill for generations to come.
How long have you been in business?
Since 1979, over 45 years! We love what we do and are still learning every day. We never stop looking for ways to build a better home and to make the customer experience better than it was yesterday.
Who will I work with while you build my home?
We believe that a team will outperform an individual every time. A member of the Hickson family is involved throughout the process of building your home, but since one person can only do so much you will have a jobsite superintendent that manages day to day activity on the job, a selections coordinator that walks you through the selection process at our many vendors, an office manager that helps with any finance, insurance, permit questions and other staff that helps keep things running smoothly.
How long does it take to build a house?
This can depend on the size and complexity of the house but most of the time we give ourselves about 12 months to build, this is after we receive your building permit. There are many preconstruction activities such as design, engineering and permitting that is in addition to the time to build. Quality doesn’t happen overnight.
Why should I choose Hickson Construction?
Because you would be crazy not to! In all seriousness there are many great people in this profession, but we take great pride in what we do, quality construction, strong relationships, and a reputation to be proud of is what we strive for. Nobody gives you a good reputation, you must earn it!
Can you custom design a home for me?
Yes, we have designers and architects that we work with that will custom design exactly what you are looking for, this is done in almost every situation.
Where do I make selections, do you have a design center?
You will make many of your selections with our selections coordinator here at our office but you will also visit our vendors to make the remainder of your selections. This gives you a vast array of options to customize your home and not limit you in any way.
